The Battleship and the BB: Fully equipped in Christ

Have you ever had a random thought that won’t leave you alone? A word or phrase that seems simple at first, but keeps returning—bigger, deeper, and more meaningful each time?

That’s exactly what happened when I heard the phrase:

“You are a battleship, and the devil is a BB.”

At first, I smiled and moved on. But that thought refused to let me go. It kept echoing in my mind and growing roots in my heart. And as I pondered it, God began to show me powerful truths about who we are in Christ and how fully equipped we already are.

The Battleship and the BB

A battleship compared to a BB pellet

Let’s be honest—who compares a battleship to a BB pellet?

The statement seemed almost ridiculous at first. But then I understood what the speaker meant:

The power and authority we have over the enemy is so great that, in comparison, the devil is utterly insignificant.

The devil is not even the gun—just the tiny metal pellet. And yet… he seems to cause so much havoc in people’s lives. Why?

Because he’s been a “BB” far longer than most of us have recognized ourselves as battleships.

He’s experienced. He knows how to exploit weaknesses, how to distract us, how to hit the same sore spots over and over again. But here’s the truth that changes everything:

We can’t stop the devil from knowing his strategies, but we can learn to walk in our identity and use the power we’ve been given.

Recognizing Who You Are

I’ve never been particularly fascinated by ships, but the first time I saw a battleship, I was in awe.

Massive.

Majestic.

Intimidating.

Imagine being at war on the sea and seeing an 800-foot-long steel fortress approach—guns loaded, engines roaring, the waves trembling beneath it. That sight alone could make seasoned officers surrender!

So why does the devil—the tiny BB—still act so bold?

Because many battleships don’t know they’re battleships.

Some have mistaken themselves for cruise ships, drifting comfortably through life. Others think they’re luxury yachts, focused on riches, beauty, and pleasure.

But a battleship that forgets its identity cannot fight or win.

A Battleship Without Awareness

A battleship that doesn’t know it has artillery won’t fire.

A battleship that doesn’t know how to use its weapons will be outmaneuvered by lesser enemies.

And a battleship that forgets it’s backed by the full authority of its government will never advance or claim new territories.

To defeat the enemy, the battleship must:

  1. Recognize what it is.

  2. Learn to use what it has.

  3. Remember who sent it—and who stands behind it.

What’s in Our Arsenal?

Naturally, my next question was, “Okay Lord, what’s my artillery?”

As I began to recall what God has already provided for us in Christ, the list grew—and kept growing—until I had to stop at 20 because my brain was about to explode!

We are truly fully equipped, not just to resist the enemy, but to establish God’s Kingdom on earth. God has already given us everything we need to reign in life. Just like the Apostle Peter said in his second letter–

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,  as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,  by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1: 2-4

Each of these weapons alone could bring victory—but He didn’t stop at one. He gave us a whole arsenal.

Here’s what I listed from memory (and this isn’t even exhaustive!):

20 Things God Has Equipped Us With

  1. Redemption

  2. The Life of God

  3. Health and healing

  4. Deliverance

  5. Relationship with Him

  6. The Name of Jesus

  7. The Blood of Jesus

  8. The Authority of Christ

  9. The Word of God

  10. The Holy Spirit

  11. Forgiveness of sins

  12. Wisdom

  13. The Fruit of the Spirit

  14. The Gifts of the Spirit

  15. Ministry gifts

  16. Grace

  17. Mercy

  18. Favor

  19. Peace

  20. The Faith of God

Truly Fully Equipped

This list could go on and on, but the point isn’t its length—it’s the overwhelming abundance of what’s available to us.

We can choose any of these “weapons,” confident that it will always be more powerful than the enemy’s tiny pellet.

When we truly know who we are, what we have, and whose we are, the enemy loses his power to intimidate.

The BB is not a threat anymore — not to a battleship that knows its strength.

Reflection: Are You Living Fully Equipped?

Maybe today is your reminder that you don’t need to ask God for more power—you just need to use what you already have. The weapons of our warfare are mighty through God, and the Spirit within you has already made you victorious.

So, rise up, battleship.

You were never meant to drift—you were built to conquer.

“Do you know any other weapons or blessings we’ve been given in Christ?”

Share them in the comments below—I’d love to hear what God reveals to you.

I love you,

Oyin.
