Why Jesus? - His Story, Our Story

Updated: Aug 9, 2025

Have you ever wondered, “Why do I have to follow or believe in Jesus?” or “Why do I have to be a Christian?” or even “What is a Christian?”

Here’s an answer—and it begins with a story.

In the Beginning

The story starts with God. He has no beginning or background because He is God—the eternal, ageless One. Out of love, He created the earth and everything in it so He could place mankind on it for one purpose: fellowship.

God created a special class of beings in His image so He could walk with them, talk with them, and pour life into them. Everything He made was perfect—earth, man, and the relationship they shared.

He gave man authority over the earth, just as He rules in heaven. Man was made to govern the earth in harmony with God.

The Fall

But one day, a deceiver came and tricked man into believing a lie about God. By trusting the deceiver and disobeying God, man lost that intimate relationship—and his connection to life itself. Since man now followed the deceiver, the authority God had given him was also handed over.

From that moment, the deceiver gained dominion over man and the earth. Mankind, created to rule, became a servant. And more devastatingly, man took on a new nature: the sin nature, replacing God's nature.

This new nature separated man from God. Fellowship was broken.

Broken

God’s Rescue Plan

But God, full of love and mercy, already had a plan to restore man—to bring him back to Himself and reclaim man’s lost authority. This plan spanned generations and found its fulfillment in one person: Jesus.

Jesus is unique. He was fully man because He was born of a woman, yet fully God because He was born of God. Unlike all other humans, Jesus did not inherit the sin nature—He carried God’s nature.

Because of that, He lived a life filled with the supernatural—healing the sick, raising the dead, feeding multitudes, and more. But the ultimate reason Jesus came was not just to do miracles—it was to die.

Why the Cross?

When man lost his connection to God, he also lost access to life. To restore that connection, sin had to be dealt with. And to remove sin, a sinless man had to take responsibility for it.

Enter Jesus.

Though sinless, He chose to represent all of mankind. He took on the sin of the world—past, present, and future—and bore the punishment we deserved. That punishment was death on a cross.

Jesus died the death that should have been ours. He went to hell—where all who carry the sin nature go—but He didn’t stay there. In hell, He defeated the deceiver and reclaimed mankind’s authority. Then, He rose from the dead, having accomplished His mission.

And He did it all representing you.

He was representing you when He died.

He was representing you when He defeated the deceiver.

He was representing you when He came back to life.

He was representing you, so you could be restored to God.

He represented us
He represented us

So… Why Jesus?

Because you can’t receive what Jesus did unless you believe He did it for you.

It’s like hiring a lawyer: the benefits only apply if you accept that lawyer as your representative. When you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you're agreeing that He represented you. That agreement restores you to God, delivers you from sin and the deceiver, and gives you back God’s nature.

All it takes is belief and confession. It’s that simple.

A Life-Changing Invitation

Think of it like a class action lawsuit against the devil—with Jesus as the lead plaintiff. The case is already won, the settlement is generous, but there’s a deadline to join.

The settlement? A life full of love, peace, joy, health, purpose, and eternal fellowship with God.

Missing the deadline? A life separated from God, filled with pain, fear, anxiety, confusion, and no rescue plan.

This isn’t to scare you—it’s to invite you back to the life you were created for. A life only found in Jesus.

Jesus Is the Way

He has already done everything needed for you to live—fully and freely. The question is: will you receive it?

Return to the One who created you in love, and for love. Come back to your source of life. Come back to God.

I love you,

Oyin.
