The Knowing God Series: The CAPE Approach to Knowing God

Cherish • Abide • Press • Express

As I look back over the past few posts in The Knowing God Series, I see a beautiful pattern taking shape — a rhythm of relationship with God that has marked my own life again and again. What began as individual reflections have formed a single, living picture of what it means to truly know Him.

It is a journey.

A progression.

A deepening.

And the Lord helped me see that this journey can be summarized in one simple movement of the heart: C.A.P.E.

A way to know God — deeply, intimately, personally.

A way to walk with Him — consistently, intentionally, joyfully.

A way to let Him shape us and shine through us.

C.A.P.E. Cherish. Abide. Press. Express.

C — Cherish: The Beginning of Desire

Every relationship starts with a longing — a spark of desire.

To know God begins with cherishing Him above all else.

Cherishing is the quiet turning of the heart toward God.

It’s choosing Him not for what He gives, but for who He is.

It’s valuing His presence more than His promises.

It’s where intimacy begins.

A gentle awakening of the soul that says, “God, I want You.”

And God meets us there.

A — Abide: The Place of Transformation

Desire draws us close, but abiding keeps us there.

It is one thing to long for God — it is another to stay.

To abide is to remain.

To stay rooted.

To dwell with God long enough for fruit to grow.

In abiding, His Word washes us.

In abiding, His presence steadies us.

In abiding, we are pruned, purified, and nourished.

Abiding is where transformation takes place — quietly, consistently, deeply.

P — Press: The Pursuit of Intimacy

From abiding comes another invitation: to press in.

Not striving. Not performing.

But pursuing.

Paul’s words echo through the centuries:

“That I may know Him…” (Philippians 3:10)

This is the press — the holy determination to know God beyond theory, beyond religion, beyond habit.

Pressing is choosing Him when distractions compete.

It is leaning into His love when comfort calls you away.

It is saying, “Everything else is loss compared to You.”

Pressing reveals the difference between knowing about God and knowing God.

It is the posture of the soul that refuses to settle for distance when closeness is offered.

E — Express: The Overflow of Knowing Him

And then comes the natural outflow — express.

Those who know God inevitably reveal Him.

Not in forced effort,

Not in religious performance,

But in the simple overflow of a heart touched by God.

We express Him in the way we love,

the way we heal,

the way we forgive,

the way we serve,

the way we show up in a hurting world.

Jesus said,

“You are the light of the world…” (Matthew 5:14)

Light does not try to shine — it simply shines.

It is the nature of light.

And expression becomes the nature of those who know God.

We become His hands, His heart, His voice, His compassion, His wisdom in places where darkness once ruled.

Knowing God is never just about receiving —it is about reflecting Him.

C.A.P.E — The rhythm of a life that knows God.

When you step back, you see the whole picture:

Cherish draws you in.

Abide roots you.

Press deepens you.

Express releases you.

This is the rhythm of knowing God.

This is how intimacy grows.

This is how fruit multiplies.

This is how heaven touches earth through ordinary people who love an extraordinary God.

CAPE isn’t a formula — it’s a flow.

A breathing in and breathing out of the life of God.

And if you allow it, this simple rhythm will reshape your walk with Him in ways you never imagined.

A Final Encouragement

My prayer is that CAPE becomes more than an acronym to you.

I pray it becomes a lived experience.

A way of walking with God that draws you deeper into His heart.

May you cherish Him with a pure and undivided heart.

May you abide in Him until His nature becomes yours.

May you press into His presence with holy hunger.

And may you express His goodness to a world aching for light.

You were made to know God.

You were made to walk with Him.

And you were made to express Him.

CAPE is simply the journey home.

I love you,

Oyin.
